Program:

All about Linux Memory usage by the Oracle Database by Frits Hoogland

Frits Hoogland is an IT professional specializing in Oracle database performance and internals. Frits frequently presents on Oracle technical topics at conferences around the world. In 2009 he received an Oracle ACE award from the Oracle Technology Network and a year later became an Oracle ACE Director. In 2010 he joined the OakTable Network. In addition to developing his Oracle expertise, Frits works with modern operating systems. Frits currently works at the Accenture Enkitec group.
Memory usage of a virtual memory systems like linux always have been shrouded in mystery, with admins setting parameters by best practice rather than based on measurable facts specific for that machine and workload. This presentation explains how memory is allocated and used on Linux (and when it isn’t!), after which different database memory scenario’s are replayed on a virtual machine showing how memory allocations behave. Because of the delayed allocation, oversubscription of memory will in most cases not become visible at database startup time, but rather after running for some time, depending on memory need, which can be minutes, but also very easily after a few days. Without awareness of linux memory allocation strategies, oversubscription indicators like sudden swapping will seem to happen random. The gist if the talk is not Oracle database specific, however, it will use Oracle database scenario’s.

Provisioning the Oracle Database in the Cloud by Frits Hoogland

Installing the Oracle database at massive (cloud) scale requires automation. This talk focusses on automation, local and remote/cloud. It shows how to build a VM, install the oracle database software and then patch it, after which a tarball is created from it to do a clone install. In 45 minutes.
This presentation provides a walkthrough on provisioning a full Oracle database software install using Ansible. The presentation also touches on automating local virtual machine provisioning for test and development using vagrant. Full not only means it is showing how to get Oracle installed, but also fully patched to the latest PSU. It goes beyond concepts and shows actual execution of deployment, step by step, via live demo’s. In today’s world, repetitive tasks like installing a database should be automated and not done manually using expensive administrative hours. Maybe even the most important aspect (more important than expensive hours being used) is that manual installations are guaranteed to have inconsistencies, which will make administration (and further automation) hard. This is a must see session for anyone who is serious about using Oracle databases at scale (which could be cloud)!

Big Data and the multimodal database by Heli Heskyaho

Heli Helskyaho is the CEO for Miracle Finland Oy and an Ambassador for EOUC (EMEA Oracle Users Group Community). Heli holds a Master’s degree (Computer Science) in the University of Helsinki and she is specialized on databases. At the moment she is working on her doctoral studies, researching and teaching at the University of Helsinki. Her research areas cover Big Data, multi-model databases, schema discovery and methods and tools for utilizing semi-structured data for decision making. Heli has been working on IT since 1990. She has been in several positions but every role has always included databases and database designing. Heli believes that good database design and good documentation reduces performance problems and makes solving them easier. Heli is an Oracle ACE Director and a frequent speaker in many conferences. She is the author of Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler for Database Design Mastery (Oracle Press 2015) and a co-author of Real World SQL and PL/SQL: Advice from the Experts (Oracle Press 2016).
Multi-model database is a database that stores several data models in one single database allowing the user to query the data using one single query language and joining all data of different data models together. What is this multi-model database and how close is Oracle database to be one?
Gartner showing in their report, Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2017, interesting things like Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Machine Learning, Intelligent Apps, Intelligent Things and Conversational Systems. All this added to the buzz on Big Data, the business people realize that data, in all forms and sizes, is critical for making the best possible decisions to win the competition over customers. According to Gartner (Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse and Data Management Solutions for Analytics 2016), “Organizations now require data management solutions for analytics that are capable of managing and processing internal and external data of diverse types in diverse formats, in combination with data from traditional internal sources. Data may even include interaction and observational data — from Internet of Things sensors, for example. This requirement is placing new demands on software in this market as customers are looking for features and functions that represent a significant augmentation of existing enterprise data warehouse strategies.” These needs give a lot of pressure for the technology. One of the problems recognized is the different data models for different types of data but even more problematic is finding a single query language to query all the different data. Usually the user needs several query languages to query from different sources and then a query language to somehow join the data together to get sense of it. One of the solutions is multi-model database. That is a database that stores several data models in one single database allowing the user to query the data using one single query language and joining all data of different data models together. What is this multi-model database and how close is Oracle database to be one? In this session we will talk about the different data models and how well Oracle Database 12.2. supports them.

The basics of Machine Learning by Heli Heskyaho

What is Machine Learning and why should I care? In this session we will talk about the basic concepts of Machine Learning.
What is Machine Learning and why should I care? In this session we will talk about the basic concepts of Machine Learning: Features, Instances, Binary classification, Scoring and Ranking, and beyond. There are different models used in Machine Learning: logical, geometrical, grouping, probabilistic models, and model ensembles. We will talk about those models and learn a little bit more about Concept learning, Tree models, Rule models, Linear models, Distance-based models, and probabilistic models. After we have learn the basics of the models used in Machine Learning we will talk about Experiments in Machine Learning: what to measure, how to measure, and how to interpret the results. And in the end of the session we will take a look to the future: What’s next?

Use APEX to Visualize Spatial Data by Øyvind Isene

Developing applications in Oracle Applications Express is easy compared to many alternatives. Showing data on maps is getting very popular now as the amount of mobile data is increasing every year. This practical presentation will show you how you can use the Oracle database to store and analyse spatial data and visualise them using APEX. One of the goals in this presentation is to show you how you can present data on maps using APEX, including your own beer data.

Having Fun with Open Data and Oracle XE by Øyvind Isene

There are a lot of open data sets on the Internet meant to be analyzed by people interested in data science, big data and who knows what. The fact is that many of these data sets are not really that big and can easily be imported into Oracle XE. This presentation will show you how you can have fun with SQL Developer, the SQL language and many of the rich functions in the Oracle database in order to discover new insight and become a better analyst. This presentation is for DBAs who needs to fresh up their knowledge on SQL, and for beginners who would like to have some fun with the database.

Case Study: Using PL/SQL and SQL features to meet timing requirements in migration project by Lasse Jenssen

This presentation shows how you could combine different PL/SQL and SQL features to meet project requirement, both functional and performance vice. The first version was killed after running for a couple days in test. How did we make this code finish in a couple of hours?

Several road which leads to Rome – also regarding performance by Lasse Jenssen

This presentation dive into several ways to work with performance. On one side, you have the Millsap or Method-R – just trace it. But there are also other ways that can help you diagnose performance issues or assist in tuning tasks. This presentation take a peek into alternative ways to look at performance, and when the different methods are suitable.

Multitenant by Trond Brenna

Med lanseringen av 12.2 av databasen har Oracle lagt til en mengde ny muligheter med Mulitenant. Denne sesjonen vil gå gjennom de viktige nyhetene og vise eksempler på hvordan dette kan utnyttes. Nyhetene er f.eks hot-cloning, refresh-clone, relocate PDB og Application container.

Autonomous Database by Trond Brenna

På Oracle Open World som ble nylig arrangert i San Francisco lanserte Larry Ellison siste innovasjon innen database teknologi – en Autonomous database. Denne sesjonen vil prøve å vise hva som ligger bak dette og hvilke teknologier benyttes for å kunne lage en selvgående database

Container technology. Let’s dive into the world of docker and kubernetes by Bjarte Brandt

If you haven’t been introduced to container technology yet, this will be the session for you! Docker will be explained where a demo of an Oracle Database in a container will be presented. What is the difference between an image and a container? Where are my datafiles? Container technology really starts to shine when we add some orchestration tool to it! A demo of an application deployment running through all the steps: git commit, build image, register image, deploy container to kubernetes cluster will be presented.

For å lage din egen agenda (My Schedule) må du logge på og velge de foredrag du ønsker ved enten å velge via Schedule eller Schedule Tracks for ønsket spor.  Vi anbefaler at du først går via Schedule og legger inn lunsjer, frokost, aperitif, middag, og ikke minst Generalforsamling, torsdag.

Dersom du har planlagt å være med på workshop P36 om IoT/JavaME, Big Data og BI, må du ha med egen laptop med Virtualbox installert på forhånd.

Du finner også en del nyttig informasjon under Practicalities. Nytt for å år er at vi har tatt i bruk informasjonmodul i Guidebook  og legger ut løpende informasjon underveis som du kan finne i Inbox.

Viktig om pass! På grunn av situasjonen i Europa, er det strengere grensekontroll når vi ankommer Oslo lørdag. Color Line ber derfor alle om å ha med seg pass. Norsk politi utfører grensekontroller når vi skal av båten på lørdag. Husk også å ta med passet hvis du skal gå av båten i Kiel på fredagen!

Innsjekking:

Innsjekk er kl. 09:30 på Color Line-terminalen på Hjortneskaia. Alle deltagere må henvende seg i gruppeinnsjekk og vise ID-kort for å motta boardingkort. Boardingkortet er også nøkkelen til lugaren din. Du får ikke tilsendt billett, og trenger heller ikke å ha med noen betalingsbekreftelse.

Vi ber om at alle fortsetter gjennom sperren og opp rulletrappen så snart dere har mottatt boardingkortet. Dere vil så få utdelt OUGN badge/deltagerbevis.

Ombordstigning er kl. 10:30.

Ingen lugarer er klare før kl. 13:30, så bagasjen må settes på Casino (dekk 6, forut).

Hvis du ikke rekker felles ombordstigning kl. 10.30, må du hente din badge hos OUGN-standen på dekk 12 rett før eller etter kl 14:00

Seminaret starter i Show Lounge presis kl. 11:00 med åpning og innledning ved Paul Chaffey, før vi setter i gang paneldebatt med tema ‘Digitalisering i offentlig sektor’.

Også i år tilbys et EXPO-område hvor dere vil møte våre partnere, i tillegg til å ha et naturlig sted å treffe andre deltakere. Her vil lunsj bli servert begge dager hos våre partnere. Vi møtes også her til aperitif hver kveld før vi går til middag. Se  Guidebook for åpningstider og kart (menuvalg Maps) over båten og Expo-området.

Ved innsjekking vil du få utdelt et klippekort med alle våre partnere representert. For hver partner du besøker får du et klipp, og den som har besøkt flest partner stands i løpet av konferansen, deltar i konkurransen om en rekke premier. Vinnerne trekkes i Show Lounge etter middag fredag kveld. Da vil også alle våre partnere trekke sine vinnere etter de ulike konkurransene de har hatt på sine stand.

Det vil være åpent for lunsj i overkant av to timer begge dager, husk å sette av tid til dette i din egen agenda!  Våre gullpartnere inviterer til lunsj med forskjellige tema på torsdagen: Asiatisk hos Oracle. amerikansk hos Sysco, norsk hos Right, og italiensk hos Knowit. Dessert blir også servert. Så her bør det være noe for enhver smak!

Wifi – nyhet!

Color Line tilbyr nå  internet via WiFi under hele turen, også i lugarer og fellesområder, selv om det til tider går via satellitt med de hastigheter det innebærer. Det er best dekning på dagtid og begrenset mulighet for streaming som YouTube o.l. Dette er allikevel en stor forbedring som vi er glade for å kunne tilby.

Thursday 10th of March Color Fantasy departs Oslo for Kiel, and once again, we truly believe that we have two exciting days ahead of us, with lectures and socializing in beautiful surroundings.

Border control and passports: Due to new regulations, Color Line ask all their passengers to bring their passports. And please, also remember your passport if you go ashore in Kiel, as you will need to show it together with the boarding pass when re-entering the ship!

When back in Oslo on Saturday 12th, there can be some delays at the custom due to border controls with the police checking passports.  If you have a tight schedule for the flight back to your country/place even in Norway, please contact Ann-Sofie.Often@ougn.no! Normally without this delay, you should be at Oslo Airport Gardermoen around 12:00 on Saturday.

 

Plan your conference now

You will find a short version of the agenda at the OUGN stand on deck 12. We also recommend that you use Guidebook. I you already downloaded the app last year you only need to download OUGN16.

Check in:

Check-in is at 09:30 hrs at the Color Line terminal. Please go to the Color Line Group Check-in counter with your passport to receive your boarding card. The boarding card is also the key to your cabin.  If you need a WiFi connection in the waiting area, please ask for a code when getting the boarding card.

We ask everyone to pass through the barriers and continue up the escalator as soon as you have received your boarding card. Here you will receive your OUGN badge. There is a coffe shop in the waiting area.

Boarding is at 10:30 hrs, and the seminar starts at 11:00 hrs onboard. The boat leaves Oslo at 14:00.

Opening at 11:00 (sharp) in Show Lounge deck 7:

Welcome speach in English and keynote will take place in the Show Lounge on Deck 7. Please place your luggage in the Casino (deck 6) until the cabins are ready at 13:30. We ask everyone to bring their luggage to the their cabins before 13:45  (Casino opens for other guests at 14:00 hrs). This year the only keynote speach is held in Norwegian and the following panel discussion as well.

Exhibition Center (Deck 5)

In the Expo Area on Deck 5 you can meet our partners and mingle with your peers. Lunch will be served from different stands in the Expo Area both days. On Thursday you can find different kinds of food from around the world at the different stands:

We will also be serving Aperitif in the Expo Area before dinner both evenings. Please check Guidebook for opening hours and a map of the area. You can also be part of the competition of visiting most partners, by collecting marks on your card provided at check-in. There will be a raffle on Friday after dinner in the Show Lounge among the delegates with most marks. Our partners will also have raffles of other prizes at this time.

Lunch at EXPO (deck 5):

Our partners invite for lunch at the Exhibition Center. They invite to different food themes on Thursday: Oracle: Asian, Sysco: American, Right: Norwegian, Knowit: Italian. Dessert is also served.

Wifi

During the conference a code is handed out in the conference center at deck 12. This year we have internet connections almost everywhere and all the time, even in your cabin. This is a huge improvement. But still, we are on a boat and when not having 3G/4G communications the communications goes via satellite.

If you wish to park at the Color Line terminal you have to book this directly with Color Line: Tel: 810 00 811  Please note that parking at the Color Line terminal is at your own expense and shall not be charged OUGN.
